Pedroglifos was started as a personal project in 2021, when brand designer Pedro Medina Leandry self-published his font experiments as a self-taught type designer. After realizing there were no established Puerto Rican foundries, Pedro took on the mission to build a foundry capable of producing its own catalogue, and to provide type design and engineering services to brand and design studios, editorial publishers and agencies.

The foundry’s retail fonts have been used by many local designers and all over the world. It has published collaborations with seasoned designers like Josué Oquendo Natal on Modestia, Tural Alisoy (from TAFT Foundry) on the Neopol Superfamily, and produced custom work in collaboration with Edna Acosta. The goal is to continue producing expressive type with Caribbean flair and multilingual accessibility.

Beyond the growing retail catalogue, Pedroglifos also offers bespoke type design and font production services to agencies, brands and studios. In 2025, Goya Puerto Rico commissioned a font for their community program. That same year, Estudio Interlínea collaborated with the foundry to produce and master Tandem Sans, designed by Edna Acosta for Tandem Studio.

The Pedro
behind it all

It all started back in 2020, when I was exploring new paths in my design career. What began as curiosity became «amor verdadero». I believe type is the one device that bridges the gap between communication, expression, and identity.

Five years later, Pedroglifos has grown to be the only established font foundry in the Caribbean. This reality led me to undertake the discipline with a sense of responsibility: to place Puerto Rican (and Caribbean) typefaces on the map of international design.

Each project I take on is a challenge of uniqueness. How different I can make one font from another will always be my drive. In the process, I’ve also developed a newfound appreciation for other writing systems. In particular, the Cyrillic alphabet has captured my heart and opened my eyes to a more connected world—one that inspires me to continue creating better and more diverse fonts.

These are the principles that guide my typeface practice

Multilanguage accesibility

All Pedroglifos’ fonts are multilingual. Some have more support than others, depending on how recent the work is. I have been studying other writing systems, with a special focus on Cyrillic because of its still-evolving nature. Fonts like Sato, Senteia, Datura, and Zorzal all have support for Slavic languages such as Ukrainian, Russian, Serbian, and Bulgarian. My goal is to continue expanding support for older fonts such as Zafrada, Matria, and Normandi. When it comes to Latin, you can trust all of my fonts to support 60% or more of the languages that use the Latin alphabet.

Flexible licensing for a better design world.

As a buyer of fonts myself, I know licenses can be difficult to understand at first glance. As the type industry moves toward simpler and friendlier licensing, at Pedroglifos, we have created flexible licenses that allow for multiple devices for a single sale. The only restrictions are the mandatory ones: None of my fonts can be redistributed commercially, nor can the source files be altered in any way.

Made with brands in the heart, and mind.

Brands need typefaces that reflect their ethos and help provide context for their audiences. Sometimes, it’s for their own mark; other times, it’s for communication and content pieces. Whichever the case, Pedroglifos fonts are made to be as different from one another as possible, a skill I have developed after 15+ years designing logos and brand strategies.
