Welcome to Pedroglifos 4.0!
The new website experience is live
First of all, I want to thank all the people who have supported Pedroglifos since we launched in 2021. Back in the pandemic I used a simple site builder to create our first store. I quickly realized that creating a font store was not as easy as it looked. You have to set up secure type testers and, more importantly, let visitors buy fonts individually, in bundles and as full families. This creates an administrative burden of biblical proportions! Manually setting up products (and making frequent updates) was a nightmare I bore for two years before moving to Cargo.
The Cargo site was better in many ways: it had interactive elements, better sliders, and the capability to integrate a proper font store manager through a JavaScript API. That site also reflected the growing collection of fonts I have been working on, and most recently collaborating on (Modestia) and distributing from other designers (Letrismo). But like many things in life (and on the internet), Cargo had a downside too. Their builder is what’s called an SPA, a Single Page Application. I don’t want to get too technical here, but what that means is that Google and other search and generative engines don’t like them, because they’re harder to understand code-wise. When their robots try to crawl an SPA site, they see a bunch of pieces that don’t appear to be connected to each other, rather than what they’re used to: well-structured, separate pages. If you know a bit about SEO, you know what I’m talking about. So, I had to make the decision to create the site… again!
This time, with a bit of vibe coding, my somewhat superficial understanding of HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and my user experience design background, I built the site from scratch. I didn’t want to touch the look and feel too much, so I recycled all the images and assets from the last site. But man, it’s one hundred times better now. I have designed a better navigation system across the site, and implemented a bunch of new features like the Language Support Checker and filters for the Category and In the Wild pages. I have also added new content I had on the back burner for over a year: an OpenType Guide, a proper Services page, and an FAQ sheet.
I hope you enjoy the new site as much as I enjoyed creating it. This upgrade is a huge step for the Foundry. Also, while you’re here, check out the new fonts Jobito and Velero. Don’t ask me how I’ve been able to pull off all of this while also having a full-time job. That’s probably why I feel tired all the time, haha!
Thank you again for your support.
